"Natural" is one of those buzzwords that people like for irrational reasons. There's a popular delusion that natural things are harmless things, and that synthetic chemicals are inherently unhealthy. Even though lead, arsenic, uranium and cyanide can be found in nature, and our most effective pharmaceutical drugs are synthesized in laboratories.

Just because a product is made of 100% natural ingredients doesn't mean it's any healthier for you. You wouldn't walk into your backyard and just start eating everything natural assuming it's all good for you. You're likely to get very sick doing that.

It is true that cannabis is natural and that cannabis is pretty much harmless, but those two facts are not necessarily related. Synthetic THC is just as harmless if not more so, and cannabis with naturally growing mold on it could cause serious medical problems.

While I agree saying that weed is "natural" therefore "good" is a bad and weak argument, let me play devil's advocate for a moment.

I think the argument's suggestion is that marijuana, as an illegal drug, differs from other illegal drugs because it does grow naturally in the environment. I think the argument is used to set it apart from meth, crack and all those other evil drugs.

Right on though, it's a fairly week argument and I would never use it to defend marijuana. But I think the argument is meant to illuminate the idea that weed is not like the other illegal drugs, which are usually manufactured in homemade labs.

Cocaine, tobacco, opium and fly agaric also grow naturally. I would consider all of those to be significantly more dangerous than LSD, a purely synthetic drug.

That pretty much destroys the argument right there. All the ones you mentioned are also highly addictive. I'm not sure about LSD though.

cocaine grows naturally??? i don't think so... I'm not a crack head or anything but I'm pretty sure it does not grow like that.
Coca is the plant where cocaine comes from

and heroin(and many other drugs) also comes from opium poppy(a plant) but like cocaine, it is processed and cut with other chemicals... unlike weed.. where i believe it's supposed to be a trimming, drying and curing process......which is natural

I pretty sure they have to do something to the poppy to turn it into opium. And im a 100% sure that something needs to be doen to cocain.

Does anybody else here hate the argument that weed is good because its natural? It makes no sense it just makes people think ur stupid. I mean poison ivy is natural but you dont see people rubbing it all over their skin on purpose.

It's a natural medicene and pain killer. Nothing's wrong with that arguement..shit I'd choose a natural herb like cannabis over prescription drugs any day.
