WANNA MAKE A STAND TO MY PARENTS

Hey,

Recently influenced by fellow board member Bwueh's little expirience, I've decided that sometime over the next few weeks i'm going to try to convince my dad(a longtime alcohol lover, not an alcoholic) to except the fact that i smoke pot on "occassion" and for him to not have a problem with it. i'm currently 16 and will be 17 in march.

2 years ago my parents foind out i blazed bc an old friend(AssHole) got caught and decided to say he got the weed from me, which he diddn't. I had to wait an extra 3 months b4 getting my drivers permit. i got caught a second time about one year ago due to leaving an instant message on my computer that talked about my activities that night.(one of the shittiest ways to get caught, so avoidable). from that i had to wait an extra month for my license. Since then i've had small debates about the subject and came to find that my mom "tried" pot once and my dad said he did it in college(in the 70's). I've also found that their only defense is the simple fact that "it's ILLEGAL". thats their only response most the time. Another difficulty with my mom is my little brother(14). she is hung up on the possibility of him wanting to try it. well, he already has and enjoys it, but i dnt think having him help convince them is a good idea.

What i'm looking for from all you other "fans of cannabis" is any ideas on how i could possibly change their mind, well, my dad anyway. i would rather be 1 on 1 with my dad instead of battle both, him and my mom at the same time.

Any ideas from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

i have the EXACT same problem man, ive been caught twice, and have been arguing with them on and off ever since. same story with parents too, mom and dad both did it in college. just like you, all they can say for their argument is "its illegal"

Take them to this site, the cannabis.com home site, and have them read the FACTS link (not the Faq link on this page). Let them read it for themsleves...maybe it will help you out a little bit and put and end to some of the myths adults believe about pot.

o, another argument they have is that i dont kno where it came from and how could i kno that it's not laced. I've never had a problem with laced shit bc i get it from the same guy(my friend) who gets it from the same guy, ect. its all bullshit! AHHHH!

I understand your stituaion, but I still think their "it's illegal" argument is valid, just because you are a minor and they are legally responsible for you. If you get caught, they have to deal with it. I think that it would probably be better for you to wait till you are 18(a legal adult) to try and convince your parents. That way, you could argue that you will take all legal responsibilities for your actions, since their main argument is that it's illegal.

that is a good point. im usually responsible about "my hobby". i jst hope he takes it openly and doesnt jst flip out about it, shich i doubt he will. think i'm gonna take Maryjanemama's advice and jst have my dad read those FAQs on the cannabis.com homepage sometime. i jst hope he takes it openly and doesnt jst flip out about it, which i doubt he will. i still wont tell them straight up that i still smoke. i'll jst see what he thinks about it and i'll let u guys know how it works out.

use the bit about teenagers and reverse psychology, tell them that however much they know about teenagers and drugs, what makes them get into it in the first place. rebellion against the priciples your elders stand for. that inlcudes doing things you are not supposed to do, i.e. "illegal" drugs, alcohol, tobacco, its natural, i am doing it right now and loving it. try to get them to admit that the more they try to keep you from using, the more likely you will use and maybe even get into "hard" drugs although i dont give a shit, but try it out.

martin luther king did wat was supposedly wrong, bob marley smoked and changed the world, marijuana has helped many countries become very peaceful (ex. holland, amsterdam, sweden, ect.)

explain to them that u smoke it and when ur done... well thats it.
explain to them that u dont smoke b/c u hate ur life, explain to em that u dont smoke b/c u think its cool, tell em u dont smoke to impress ppl, tell em its not effecting your life, and most importantly TELL THEM U R NOT GOING TO STOP. ***dont be a little smartass and argue with them, just be very calm and speak to them in an adultlike manner, and if done correctly i guarantee that they mite still be against it but they understand u better and def. respect u much more and think of u as finally a real adult.
