When I was a kid (a scant decade ago), tornadoes were something that happened in the Wizard of Oz. Now they're a weekly threat in our area. Something big is happening to our environment. I'm not too worried about the Earth - the Earth has survived much more catastrophic events than this. But life on Earth? It's probably going to be temporarily fucked. Mother Nature is pretty good at coming along and clearing the decks every once in a while. Humans have had a pretty good run.

I know that sounds harsh. Am I happy that we're going down the drain? Not really. Can I change the very probable eventuality that it's going to happen? Not at all. It's time for something else to take the podium; rats and cockroaches, all those small hardy species. It's kind of interesting to imagine how they'll adapt and possibly evolve. Who knows, maybe in a few million years the rats will be the ones experimenting on us!

I'm also interested in what the possible motivations for those interested in going green are. I've heard the anti-global warming people say that it's a big scam - what's the problem with a scam that conserves natural resources and cuts down on the obliteration of nature? I'd be interested in hearing the other side of the story.
