    ELECTRICITY SAVING

I saw my electric bill today, not good. I currently have 2- 600w HPS, one on an 18 cycle, the other on 12. Could I run the 18 hour for only 12 hours, with say, an hour ON in the middle of the dark cycle to prevent flowering ?

It WOULD save electric, but would i get enuff growth ?

    Comments appreciated. V.

They have a GRAY box at the DYI stores that you set for time of use.
This is just is a heavy duty timmer
Tv,CD,printers all have a hot stand by and use lots of watts just waiting to be turned on.
Replace all your non reading ! lamps with CPF. Note the reading light if you use a CPF your eyes will go bonkers.
The new Califorina law that wants to replance all incand. bulbs with Cpf . The problem is frequency blinking of 60/50 cycles, and houses will need to be rewired so the lights in one lamp will need to be off cycle. Or use a converter to make them not blink.
One other problem with CPF is the recycling of the bulbs.
Note in most homes lights are left on for the booogie man, This retired worker of Monsters Inc. is still around. Thats why most people leave the lights on.

one of the best and easy ways without having to cut out alot of ur everyday stuff i.e a/c being a main one is to put a switch on ur hot waterheater line where u can turn it on and off and only turn it on about a half hr b4 u need hot water and then back off cause ur hot waterheater eats up the "ELECTRICITY" as it stays on as u all should know how a waterheater works it's off and on 24/7 so if u put a switch in so u can turn on and off ur self u will save a bundle

Leave the dark cycle dark- that hour on you suggested is too stressful.
Want to save electric? Look at your habits. Put your TV and computer on a power strip, and shut it off when not in use (=ghost draw). Your computer draws some serious juice.
To cool your house instead of ac running all the time, open your windows at dusk and get fans going. Close them and draw the curtains at sunrise. This is how it's been done for centuries before electricity.
Do your laundry a tthe laundromat.
Swithc all your lights to CFLs .

You could run one 1000 watt HPS and it should be good for what, 10 sq ft? You can use google to find out how much your kilowatts cost. In California, I believe it's $0.12/hr to run a single 1000 watt hps lamp for an hour, 16 hrs a day, should come out to just over $60 a month. I used this.

Maybee i didnt explain myself correctly. I have seperate veg and flower rooms. 600W hps in each. One on 12 hour, the other on 18. Obviously i wouldnt want the plants in the veg room to go into flower, which they would if i lowered the light hours to 12 to save electric, so could i run the veg light for an hour in the middle of the dark cycle, therefore only using 13 hours of electric, instead of 18, and still keeping the plants in a veg state.

Buy some CFL's for the Veg room # 18 hrs under CFL is going to be a lot cheaper and you shouldn't need the wattage in veg

You could then double up with the 2x 600wHPS in flower and go for big yields. Maybe using both lights in the last few weeks of flowering so you get the most yield and lowest energy costs.

Messing with the timing will just cause your plants stress, drop yield and likely cause hermy attributes if the plant is stressed and then flowered. I would seriously consider a smaller veg room light.

Just an idea to chop costs! Hell even Envirolights can veg weed nicely. Or invest in a 250w HPS for Veg.
Minds are like parachutes, they both work best when open.

OK, so not a good idea to mess with the timing, i can understand that. Of course, ENVIROLITES.. why didnt i think of that ? My local hydro shop sells em in blue and red, presumably blue is best for veging ?
I have tried veging under flourescents over the years, but the plants became quite stretched and spindly. My 600w on the 12 cycle runs on a light rail over 6 foot or so, but i agree that using the 2 600's would make for a better yeild.
    Will rethink my growroom.
    Thanks for info.
