ELECTRICITY SAVING
I saw my electric bill today, not good. I currently have 2- 600w HPS, one on an 18 cycle, the other on 12. Could I run the 18 hour for only 12 hours, with say, an hour ON in the middle of the dark cycle to prevent flowering ?
It WOULD save electric, but would i get enuff growth ?
Comments appreciated. V.volak Reviewed by volak on . ELECTRICITY SAVING I saw my electric bill today, not good. I currently have 2- 600w HPS, one on an 18 cycle, the other on 12. You could run one 1000 watt HPS and it should be good for what, 10 sq ft? You can use google to find out how much your kilowatts cost. In California, I believe it's $0.12/hr to run a single 1000 watt hps lamp for an hour, 16 hrs a day, should come out to just over $60 a month. I used this.

ELECTRICITY SAVING
Maybee i didnt explain myself correctly. I have seperate veg and flower rooms. 600W hps in each. One on 12 hour, the other on 18. Obviously i wouldnt want the plants in the veg room to go into flower, which they would if i lowered the light hours to 12 to save electric, so could i run the veg light for an hour in the middle of the dark cycle, therefore only using 13 hours of electric, instead of 18, and still keeping the plants in a veg state.

Buy some CFL's for the Veg room # 18 hrs under CFL is going to be a lot cheaper and you shouldn't need the wattage in veg
You could then double up with the 2x 600wHPS in flower and go for big yields. Maybe using both lights in the last few weeks of flowering so you get the most yield and lowest energy costs.
Messing with the timing will just cause your plants stress, drop yield and likely cause hermy attributes if the plant is stressed and then flowered. I would seriously consider a smaller veg room light.
Just an idea to chop costs! Hell even Envirolights can veg weed nicely. Or invest in a 250w HPS for Veg.Minds are like parachutes, they both work best when open.

OK, so not a good idea to mess with the timing, i can understand that. Of course, ENVIROLITES.. why didnt i think of that ? My local hydro shop sells em in blue and red, presumably blue is best for veging ?
I have tried veging under flourescents over the years, but the plants became quite stretched and spindly. My 600w on the 12 cycle runs on a light rail over 6 foot or so, but i agree that using the 2 600's would make for a better yeild.
Will rethink my growroom.
Thanks for info.

Watts is watts
A 12 watt florsent (cpl or envirolite) puts out 12 watts
One more funny thing its the surface area of the emitting bulb that counts. Than reflection cost you 10-20% per surface, plus glass or plastic.
CPF are good in the closet incase your bugger man is loose
Now to save money on the elect bill ,UNPLUG all things your not using,
Tv, VCR,Printer, and most things now are instant on ,which means it is powered up so it looks like instant on.
As far as output its still the same as it was 30 or more years ago.
Watts per gram of output:thumbsup:
