ok guys, another question...

does anyone know the ACTUAL spread and coverage of a 400w? of a 1000w?

i have read that a 400w will do a 3x3, a 1000w will do a 5x5... i took a tape measurer down and it seems at five feet, the 1000w gets a little less intense on the edges, i think maybe it's more like 4 feet....

slik, i'd love to have two 600w's to work with, but i don't.... i have only the two 400w and the one 1000w. i'm thinking that the two would spread better, i just wonder if they'd cover the whole table...?

you need to shoot for atleast 50 watts per sq ft or more so a 5 by 5 area is really to large for a 1000 at only 40 watts per sq ft, and a 3 by 3 area is to large for a 400 at 44 watts per sq ft.
there really isnt much of an advantage to use one over the other, but a 1000 has alot better intensity at almost 3 times the lumens of 1 400 in a sog its probably not going to make much of a difference in yield, wich ever way you go if you decide to use 400 you will need to keep them as close as possible other than that its just alot simpler to use one lightin my opinion.
most reflectors will cover a rectangular room if you position it so the sides of the bulb which give off the most light is lighting the long side of the room and the socket and end of the bulb is lighting the short side of the room if you didnt have the reflector in the right position it may not adequetly light 5 ft.

thanx bj! like i said, i'm just worried is all... i'm using the 1000w right now, and to me, it just seems that the outskirts of the area receive less light than directly under it. i don't have a light mover, and i can't afford one... so i'm thinking maybe i could make some kind of super hood that would cover the whole table... i don't know much about that kind of stuff though.

The two 400's will do fine. Maybe better, as you'll be able to fly them closer, all things being equal. Run the bulbs @ 90 degrees to the long side of the table.

Coverage depends a lot on the reflector. Properly managed, a K will do a 6x6 easily.
