    Joint Chief's attempt at spin . . .

"At a news conference Friday, the outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Peter Pace, said the number of battle-ready Iraqi battalions able to fight independently has dropped from 10 to six in recent months despite an increase in U.S. training efforts. Pace said the readiness of the Iraqi fighting units was not an issue to be "overly concerned" about because the problem was partly attributable to losses in the field." AP

And this guy is a West Pointer! We shouldn't be 'overly concerned' that 40% of Iraq's combat units are combat ineffective due to LOSSES IN THE FIELD!

That means dead/wounded men for the civilians here, i.e. they have lost so many men in recent months (and apparently not replaced them) that 4/10 battalions are out of commission. And we shouldn't be 'overly concerned'!

I can't believe he said that with a straight face, and nobody called him on it.

And right you are. They are not counting how many of the Iraqi forces are dying in all this surging, must be significant to take that many battallions out of the fray. Will these Idiots ever learn?
