The Bowling ball

My first car was a Volkswagen Microbus. Bright green with the sliding door. Aside from the fifteen people I could cram in it, it was a great camper and very entertaining for teen age boys.
We would slide the door open while passing construction zones and snatch flashing barricades, and traffic cones. Once when a friends engine seized we dropped Dave off in front of a similar Bug and drove around the block until he waved us down. We then slid the engine he had removed from the parked car into the bus and headed home to replace his engine.
The bus was a great deal of fun. One day I was cleaning out my closet and discovered a bowling ball I had not touched in years. Having nothing better to do I carried it down to the bus and stuck it in the back. Later that day I was cruising with a couple of friends and Jeff noticed the ball. Tom said we should throw it out of the bus and see what happened. He expected it to shatter into a thousand pieces. There was a hill in the north of the county that had a long straight away where we could see traffic for at least two miles. Off we went to the top of the hill.
When we were sure there were no cars either in front of behind us we headed down the long side of the hill. As I got the bus up to sixty miles an hour I pulled the bus into the center of the road and yelled at Jeff to throw it out the sliding door. With a grunt he flung the ball out the door and it struck the pavement with great force.
When the ball hit the pavement it flew into the air like a giant super ball. It flew so high we could not see where it was and I was a little worried. Suddenly the rear of the bus shook as the ten pound ball struck the left rear corner and flew back into the sky. I accelerated as fast as the bus would go and watched in my rear view mirror as the ball struck the pavement again and flew thirty or forty feet into the sky again. I managed to keep ahead of it for most of a mile as it continued to come down in about the middle of the road. As we neared the bottom of the hill the ball must have struck a pebble or something as it suddenly veered off to the side and headed into the woods.
We were nearing the entrance of a state park and off to the left was an almost billboard sized sign warning about the entrance ahead. As we watched the ball flew threw the sign leaving a cannon ball sized hole in the sign. We were so impressed with the performance of the bowling ball we spent an hour searching the woods for it so we could repeat the experience.

Of course we were stoned when we did this. Oh yes, don't try this one at home!!

Interesting though...I will uh, have to experiment with this.
