You can replant them deeper into the ground, say up to the first node, and they will be fine. By scraping the stem lightly in the area to be buried, that portion will grow new roots like a clone giving more stability.

Only caveat, don't overwater after burying, you don't want rot around the base of the stem. Water, but don't keep it sodden.
