    Convincing my doc

Alright today I went to my psychiatrist to see what she though about cannabis, and so she could prescribed me strattera and lexapro. But I came with lots of info on medicinal cannabis, how it helped my conditions, and how she was legally able to give me a "reccomendation". She was somewhat open at first, then BAM! she starts talking about burn-out stoners and how people using it for stuff other than cancer and AIDS are just looking for legal pot. I showed her the papers, she started to skim through, and then I explained some more facts, which she called false(even though I had the evidence they were true right in front of her), and then I had my dad come in and explain to her how what I was saying was true as he had read the articles himself. She then explains how I am wrong, and that UCLA and Harvard would never do studies on cannabis. Eventually she started pissing me off so I started explaining why it was illegal, how it shouldn't be, and how she is just being bribed from fucking pharmecutical companies. I then stormed out and broke the fucking bitchs thermostat. My dad stayed in for a few more minutes then came out. He said that she was embarressed when I made it obvious she was a pharmecutical company whore. Anyways now I pretty much HAVE to go to one of those god damn clinics, pay 150$, and get my recc.....what a waste of time. Oh BTW incase you were wondering....I am diagnosed with; rapid cycling bipolar(about every two weeks),ADD,OCD,Generalized anxiety,Social anxiety, and Insomnia. Not officially diagnosed with PTSD but I am pretty sure I have it due to a traumatic car-jacking. Although i'm 15 my parents would accept me getting medical cannabis, and I think I meet enough requirements....It's not like i'm an irresonsible pothead either. I have a 3.0GPA and a job....it just sickens me how twisted the pharmecutical companies are. End rant.

I can't believe people still believe this crap that anybody using medical marijuana is "just using their illness as an excuse to get high". Weed has been scientifically and culturally proven to have potent analgesic effects. So what about all the people on opiate painkillers, aren't they just "out to get high" as well? I'm always hearing how MMJ is just a scam to get it legalized, and an excuse for people to use drugs. Well, docs sure love to dole out the opiates, so where's the part where it all becomes legal and anybody with a headache or a sore back can "get some just to get high".

It's just appauling that they continue to push things like oxycontin and vicodin when they could offer an alternative (cannabis) that's non-addictive, non-toxic, easier to titrate the dose, and doesn't have the nasty side-effects like constipation, nausea, and resperatory depression. How anybody can think addictive opiates are a safer choice than cannabis is beyond me.

where are you located in the u.s.? i have all of the same disorders you do, excluding the add and the ptsd, and my doc has pretty much said that she thinks she's about to diagnose me as bipolar in august, when i have my next appointment with her. i go to school 5 hours away from where my parents live and her office, and i'm still at school taking summer classes, so she wants to meet with me in august to evaluate my bipolar tendencies. annnnnnyways, the reason i'm asking where you're located is because i'm thinking that maybe i could somehow try to obtain a reccomendation as well? (i'm in mississippi...and i doubt i could get one here ) i've been smoking instead of taking my meds, at least for the past year (when i decided to try to not only smoke recreationally, but also sub it for my meds), and i've seen a world of difference. i'm pretty sure that my psychiatrist won't give me a reccomendation though, because of her religious beliefs and because of the fact that she always asks me if i still smoke (i tell her no), and then proceeds to tell me the "dangers" of marijuana. hah

I live in Los Angelse, capital of medical cannabis reccomendations lol. I don't think they have medical cannabis in mississippi, sorry But if you ever decide to move to a MMJ state I am 100% certain you would qualify And I know what you are saying about meds(to blazed babe and gandalf), I argued to my doctor about how weed isn't addictive compared to xanax, and it's more effective. And to blazed babe, be careful on which meds you take, and dont stop taking any abruptly, but if you ask me(and lots of other bipolars/anxiety/insomnia people on the board) weed is probably the best medicine all around.

yeah, i know that i am moving once i finish school, which is 2-3 years. i was just wondering if all of my stuff potentially would qualify me i didn't stop taking anything abruptly, i slowly got myself off of each med, cutting my dosage down little by little.

soooooooooo...my next step is just to move to a mmj state

and i totally agree about the meds, gandalf. that shit pisses me off so much, because people are so ignorant

Hi Matt, you need a different psych. No two ways about it. You do meet the requirements if your parents agree to it. (at least that's how my MMJ specialist does it. No parental consent, no rec.)

Babe, sorry dear, but Mississippi isn't a MMJ state. No recommendations are ever given. Since I live in California, I can only tell you about here. Before you leave Mississippi, get a copy of your medical records. With them in hand (detailing a legit medical problem), it is ridiculously easy to get a recommendation. Only thing else you need, is the money to pay the doctor. It will run under $200. In California, you can grow 6 mature plants and have 1/2 pound of bud, if you are a MMJ user. - Granny:hippy:

I feel ya bro, I got the same shit with my doc but I didn't bring in any information on medical weed, mainly because he told me the previous visit he would check it out and he sounded like he was open to the idea....but I have a feeling somebody, I'm guessing someone that gives him lots of money, convinced him otherwise.

I must be wrong since nobody pointed it out, but I thought you had to be 18 to go legal in California, but I don't really know and since nobody mentioned that I must be wrong on that.

Good luck, sucks to have to pay but that's what I did. At least you know you can't trust her word, so in a weird way it was good to find out she cares more about prescribing you drugs from drug companies than giving a free recommendation that many drug companies are scared to shit of. Worst thing for those drug companies to happen for you is to actually get healthy, oh dear no!!

Nailhead, my MMJ specialist will give recommendations to minors- ONLY if both parents (or sole custodial parent) agree to it in writing. It can be done, but most parents won't go for it. - Granny:hippy:
