Could this mean a showdown with Iran? I know they are cracking down on Iran. The Iranians are Shia and the Iraqis are Sunni. The US is arming the Sunnis so they could can help fight Iran covertly. These 2 groups both fight the US and each other.

The US basically wants to do what it didn't do in 1979 when the radicals took over. They want regime change. They want a capitalist government/ parliamentary democracy.

Actually with the way China is and its current city structure, Iraq and Iran being way more modern wouldn't be so bad reallyBut I don't know.

Actually, most iraqi are shia. They were largely supportive of the us invasion, at least until we forgot to leave. War with iran will unite them, forgeting their 1400 year war long enough to fight us. It could well lead to a coupe in pakistan. A war from the straights of gibraltor to india, against a nucleur armed enemy. Brilliant. Bin Laden could never have dreamed we would fall into his trap so easily. But then he couldn't know how stupid gorgeous george really is. If it takes 150,000 troops to fail in iraq (population 25 million) then it will take about 7 million to fail in a broader war with islam (population 1.2 Billion). To win?
