It's a fucking joke, it's like you can't go out anymore and meet someone you think MAYBE you could have some sort of fun with. It's like you can't ask for the person you want to know to be your friend, they seem to think it HAS GOT TO be sexual to tie some sort of bind to you. Now I know from what I've said I SEEM GAY. Trust me I'm about as straight as a fucking ruler. I just don't see why two people who like each other can't sit the fuck down and watch some stupid sitcom and laugh at a joke without some ridiculous tension hanging over the two. The media plays a huuuuuuuge roll in what girls think. You might not think it because of free will and all that bs, but honestly there have been tons of studies of what the media does to people's subconscious. Girls see other girls doing sexual stuff to get guys attention ie. girls gone wild, real world, bratz dolls etc.

My other explanation would be that its different in every state/city/town. If its popular for girls to do it in some town it might be super frowned upon in another town... has to do with how you are brought up, what your belief system is etc. I will agree with you that it is pretty f***ed up.
