Giuliani Rejects Medical Marijuana Use

CONCORD, N.H. - Presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani said Tuesday that people who want to legalize marijuana for medical purposes really just want to make the drug available to everyone.

"I believe the effort to try and make marijuana available for medical uses is really a way to legalize it. There's no reason for it," the former New York mayor said during a town hall-style meeting at New Hampshire Technical Institute.

He also said there are better alternatives.

"You can accomplish everything you want to accomplish with things other than marijuana, probably better. There are pain medications much superior to marijuana," he said.

"We'd be much better off telling people the truth. Marijuana adds nothing to the array of legal medications and prescription medications that are available for pain relief."

After a speech at the first of several stops in the first-primary state, the early front-runner in the race for the Republican nomination fielded questions. None dealt with the unpopular war in Iraq.

I can't honestly believe that people are still so stupid. And this is sheer stupidity, not just misinformation. He is honestly saying that marijuana doesn't help people with pain, when its been proven infinity amount of times, both by professionals and people themselves, to improve the nerve damage in AIDS patients and help with nausea associated with chemo therapy! I URGE you to write Mr. Giuliani and let him know how you feel about his recent statements.

Also, take the time to write whoever you're going to vote for or, hell, even every presidential candidate, and let them know that you care about marijuana. Whether you are gung-ho about its medicinal purposes or you want to show how decriminalization or legalization will keep millions of non-violent people out of prison and out of the court systems, WRITE THEM AND LET THEM KNOW! It takes like 15 minutes to type out a few paragraphs. Here's an example of a letter I wrote to John Edwards today that took me 5 minutes to write:


Dear Mr. Edwards,

I recently joined your campaign via your website and
have been reading your stances on the issues. I have
also watched a few of your speeches on various news
networks and I really like your stances and you seem
like a genuine man. However, one issue I did not read
anything about was the decriminalization or
legalization of the cannabis plant.

Although this is definitely a minor issue when
compared to the atrocious war in Iraq and problems
with health care, it is not a minor issue to the
non-violent people that are arrested every 43 seconds
for possession of this harmless plant.

I urge you to spend some time researching this issue.
Not only are the current laws an infringement on human
rights and an unfair judgment of moral character by
the armed clergymen we call police, but a system of
taxation could result in huge revenue from something
that is far less harmful and less addicting than the
legal drugs alcohol and tobacco. Legalization would
also take money out of the hands of terrorists and
insurgent groups as well.

The war on drugs has been a huge failure, and rather
than pumping more money into it, wouldn't it make more
sense to treat drug use as a health problem rather
than a problem with a person's moral character and
judgment? Things that affect only the person doing
it should not be a criminal offense. I thank you for
your time and would appreciate a response if you find
the time, although I do realize you must be very busy.

i think i might know why certain candiates always win...because pro cannabis candiates arnt getting all that money from oil and pharmacudical companies to say what they want them to...unlike other anti cannabis canidates. and having alot of money makes it alot easyer to win an election.
