Howdy Hound. I posted a few pics for you. The clones are cut from the mother plant and then put into ***something*** That something can be a special purpose cube made from bark of some kind, called a rapid rooter, or it can be rockwool or it can be a hydro-rooter with spray or an aero rooter with bubbles or it can be soil or medium.

Cloning is based on the premise that, if you can keep the cutting alive long enough, it will eventually grow roots. You need to keep a little moisture around the base of the cutting, but a lot of water isn't going to do much good - there's no roots to absorb the water - and in fact too wet can cause rot.

First Pic: If the cutting is kept moist/very humid, it will most likely survive and grow roots. I keep the fresh cutting in a special clone box. It has 3 26w cfl's on a 18/6 cycle, and a small exhaust fan that I seldom use. Inside you can see a tray and dome. The humidity dome is for freshly cut clones, unless they are too big to fit inside. The big ones just go in the box. The plants in the cups were just put in coco yesterday. I'll keep them in this box until they look ready and then I'l put them under the MH's.

I mist the plants in this box 3-4 times or more per day. The temp in the box stays around 89F I alternate mistings between a 1/4 clonex solution and a 1/4 nute solution. The rapid rooters are soaked in a 1/2 clonex solution prior to use. I think rockwool needs an overnight soaking of some special kind.

Next pic. Cuttings taken July 8 - they look healthy but don't have roots yet.

Next Pic: Clones @ 14 days.

Next Pic: Plant at 4 weeks old. This is a White Widow.

I just buried some plants today or I could have shown you some cool root pics. It's really cool how fast the roots grow. One day you'll see a couple tiny roots poking out of the rapid rooter and the next day you'll have a network of roots 2" - 3" long.
