I would use a 1000 watt switchable ballast, mh for vg, and hps for flower obviously. For a begginer, use a organic soil mix, and use peters regular fert for vegetation, and peters for bloom( if you wanna get pricey try advanced nutrients!). You should grow in 3-5 gallon containers.
Are you going to be using clones, or seeds?

LILHIP.. there is another thread on this site with book recomendations.. I would check that out... if you follow a simple grow plan.... from a book... you really can't fail...

If you want great results... go with 1000watt
