Glass bong. If not a glass bong. Get a nice insane looking pipe, or bubbler. But be warned, if the bubbler doesn't look cool enough, it might get boring.

Pipe is the only way to go when comparing bongs versus pipes. Bongs don't do much except filter out the THC and the taste. (Well, they filter out some of the tar as well, but don't think that is healthy. Why? Because they filter out the same ratio of THC as they do tar you just smoke more to get the same amount of THC.)

The only thing I'll smoke besides a pipe is a vaporizer. I think the reason most people prefer bongs to pipes is because almost every pipe in any given head shop is like 2 or 3 times too small! Not only do you burn your lips on those pipes, but the smoke is still blazing hot so it burns your throat and even lungs as well. Its hell... literally.

Get yourself a good 5-6 inch long glass pipe and you'll be in heaven. You can also vaporize in a pipe by holding the blue part of the flame close to the bud but not quite burning it. Just inhale slowly with the "shotgun hole" half-way open so the flame doesn't suck into the bud, but you're still drafting the vapors into the pipe. Then when you've had enough vapor, throw the "toast" away or (if you want) put the flame on it and get the different (but still nice) taste of that thick smoke.

Pipes just taste better. Plus you get more THC per hit. And if you're concerned about tar you can always vaporize with a pipe too.

bongs dont filter thc dude. thc isnt water soluble so only a very small amount of thc will actually be taken away. and its proven that bongs dont filter that much tar. although some, but not a whole lot. the main purpose of a bong is to use the water to cool the smoke making for a longer, larger hit

Wrong my friend. NORML and MAPS did a study comparing non-filtered smoking devices (joints), water bongs, and vaporizers. The bongs performed the worst on filtering tar per amount of THC. Unfiltered joints were even better. To quote the study exactly:

Disappointingly, waterpipes performed uniformly worse than the unfiltered joint. The least bad waterpipe, the bong, produced 30% more tar per cannabinoids than the unfiltered joint. Ironically, the pipe with the electric mixer scored by far the worst of any device. This suggests that water filtration is actually counterproductive, apparently because water tends to absorb THC more readily than noxious tars. Like the waterpipes, the cigarette filter also performed worse than the unfiltered joint, by about 30%. Researchers speculate this is because cannabinoids are exceptionally sticky and adhere to other solids. Hence, any filtration system that picks up particulates is likely also to screen out cannabinoids.
