1st Outdoor grow -- Need Help
Hi there
I need help in the worst way. I got a late start planting (beginning of June) but here in Midwest, the weather wasn't the most cooperative in May. I have no real idea what I should do next or how I'm doing so far. I have seen many people point newbies towards the grow FAQ, but try as I might, I can't find the grow FAQ on this site. No, I'm not mildly retarded either
I'd have pictures, but my little one "misplaced" my digital camera and I have yet to recover it. When I do, I'll have pictures so you can all see how bad off I am.
I have two babies coming up. One is doing good (I think) standing roughly a foot and a half tall. The other one I'm worried about as its only about 7-8 inches tall. They were both planted the same time straight from the seed in the ground. It is bag seed since I don't have the means of getting good seeds around here. I should have got them started prior to planting but naive as I am, I didn't think of it until such a late date.
My problem... I have just been watering them thus far and have no idea when and if I should use any product on them. They are watered everyday to every other day depending on the weather and how dry the soil is, but that's it. Just straight water from the hose. I've tried looking around for some sort of grow chart or what have you to compare my growth with others at this time frame (5-6 weeks old now), but I haven't seen any close enough that also my have planted late as I have and that deal with Midwest heat and humidity. Of course, I'm not even sure that is even a factor. Until I get pictures up, I would describe the main one as looking healthy with about 10 nodes. (Not 100% sure of my terminology, but I consider a node a pair of branches off the main stalk. There's 10 sets of those.) The smaller one looks like the runt in comparison, but otherwise about the same with less nodes. (5-6)
My questions:
1. How far along should they be at the 6 week mark?
2. When should I start to use product on them?
3. Any suggestions as to what if anything I would use on them at this stage and following stages?
4. Other than starting earlier, is there anything else I could have done early on to better my chances at a decent crop so I'll know for next time?
By the by, I should mention these are in my backyard. Not too many nosy neighbors, but there is some close enough to keep me spooked a bit on occasion. I'm not growing for selling by any means, just to alleviate the cost of buying regularly. Around here, an ounce of schwag is about $100-$120 so I was hoping to get at least an ounce or two from these.
I appreciate any help or advice you guys can give and I'll get some sort of picture up tomorrow, even if it comes from my phone camera. Sorry this is so long.Mingles Reviewed by Mingles on . 1st Outdoor grow -- Need Help Hi there I need help in the worst way.
