    Computer Help

So I was just browsing the internet when I get this error with the blue screen of death. I keep on trying to reboot it, but some error comes up saying it has no drive to access from. Its a Dell Inspiron and I've had it for like less than a year. Anyone know what to do?

sounds like a harddrive failure, are you able to load windows at all? or does it crash half way through the load bar?

if its a hard drive failure theres a few things you can do....

    1. get really pissed off and throw you computer out the window
    2. plug your harddrive into another computer and see if you can get any data off it
    3. harddrives have alot of moving parts and sometimes they just get stuck, if you cant get anything to work, take the harddrive and bang on it a little, this will sometimes allow you to access it for a little while, but its going to happen again and you may not get it to work again
    4. if its still covered under warranty, your supplier will replace it but you will loose all your data...
    5. if your data is REALLY important you can spend some money and get it recovered by professionals, this isnt cheap though

i would need more information on the error and when the error occurs before i could confidently say that this is in fact a hard drive failure...

AND.... Dell has REALLY good customer service, and they will even drive out and fix it on site if its a desktop (and it is). So you should def call them up since you bought it less then a year ago.

EDITED: for an example, my friend built his own computer and his hard drive died.... so i took my bokken (wooden sword) and hit it as hard as i could, and then it worked for about 3 more days... enough time for him to get all his data off... ive also heard of people freezing, and even putting harddrives in the oven... i wouldnt try it tho :rastasmoke:

if your harddrive is screwed no matter what you're gonna have to replace it... but almost every computer coems with a 1 year warranty straight outta the box so that shouldn't be a problem....

my girlfriends mothers computer stopped recognising the HDD the other day, i fixed it by going into the BIOS and resetting to default setings, random but it worked.

    worth a shot.

They did not supply you with a restore disk? Most new (out of the box) desktops/workstations come with one.

My advice is to buy Norton Ghost and ghost your system. Next time it happens and you have made backups in between - you will be golden.
