im wicked happy i remembered to talk about this
I've been working on this theory for a while and i think its solid.
so i figure that if ur under 40 you'll probably live forever. well, maybe not live, but defiantly reside on some sort of digital media. able to interact, socialize, think, explore literally hundreds of thousands of times faster than our current physical constraints allow us to.
Since 1930 we have basically invented the world as we know it. with the advances in medicine alone we have drastically lengthened the expected lifespan of a human, as well as greatly improved their way of life. This will all be a thing of the past, very soon.
Taking into account the huge leaps we have recently made in the field of human-computer interconnectivity (brain connectivity) (i.e. Brain Machine Interfaces ) and Moore's Law ( Moore's Law, The Future - Technology & Research at Intel ) we can show that all our thoughts are just electrical signals, the "same" electric signals a computer uses. What's stopping us from storing or more accuratly "make digital" these thoughts, experiences, and eventually personalties that make us who we are.
In my opinion, this is the holy grail, the key to invincibility, the answer to all our questions and the resolution to all our problems. global warming isn't a problem if u dont need to have an atmosphere, we're guaranteed to find life on other planets... this is just the small stuff. it will be amazing when our brain doesn't physically limit our abilities to think and create and our bodies limit where we can go and what we can do. What im saying is, it took us 70 years to build the technology we have today. when u consider we're all like 20ish, whats another 70 years. thats assuming we dont blow ourselves up first... we've come pretty close a few times over the last 70 years.
and theres the age old question. will man's self destructive tendencies get the best of him? I hope not. I truly believe in what i'm writing. I am a devout atheist and i find great comfort knowing that maybe there is a chance of living forever.
if ur interested, there was a show on nova or one of the wgbh-hd (PBS) science shows that touched on the idea. defiantly worth watching.

love the idea, and not to sure of possibility in our life time but hope it happens.
i dont see that as us all being computers though, as you stated in the other thread.

I would not object myself to that. I hate technology more than the government and the media. Technology is what the government is using to control underclassed society, as well as the media. So fuck that, but it probably will happen, but definitely not to me.
Oh and they use that thought reading technology shit already, very inconspicuously. If you know more than you should, you are being watched and you don't even know it.

err yeah. i love technology but you're gonn ahve to count me out on that crap.... i will evolve and feel as a normal human instead of meddling with all that... holy grail to you... but to the governments it will become the holy grail of mind control... ever seen the movie Serenity? .... think of something like that... maybe not all the zombie shit, but the govt. trying to once and for all insure peace and harmony...

just like the internet is now, the gvt will struggle to keep up with and regulate the private market. this may be the end of government control as we know it. as much as i disagree with the us government, i dont think the answer is no government. I basically just said nothing. i have no point.

That's why they invented the "gangsta" society
ps.i know saying "when were all computers." makes me sound like a crazy person. maybe i should say, "when our world is entirely digital."

there's a quote that goes along with this.... i still remember it to this day just not word for word...
"there is no worse illness for a soul, then the idea of perfection"
you can't acheive perfection.... and to try, usually ends badly, very badly infact...
and you can't even begin to deny if science cracked a way to reroute brain signals and what not, that the govt. wouldn't put it to use 'for the good of the people' and change what they consider 'innapropriate behaviour'.... they wouldn't just use it on those who really need it (serial killers, rapists for example) but everyone....
maybe i'm being pessimisitic, but the idea of a 'perfect society' could never be reached.. and would probably have more negative effects then good... like in the movie... the drug they mixed with the air on the planet that died... well it made everyone just stop caring... stop caring about working, stop caring about eating, stopped caring about ANYTHING... everyone just sorta gave up on life.... it didn't have the effect the govt. was going for..
i really do believe this movie is relavent to this convsation tho.... cuz the two do have alot in common...
