First off, WHERE DO YOU LIVE??? The law on pot varies from state to state! In some states, growing any amount is a felony! Then there are the Feds- usually they won't bother with under 100 plants, but if you piss them off, they'll make an exception. 100 grams is about 3 1/2 ounces (28.6 grams to the ounce - not sure about the .6, but it is just over 28 grams). I would never do 50 plants I don't have the time or space.I was saying is that the rule of thumb to stay under? 7 for me is cool!

They can push federal law on you even if your state doesn't treat it as a big deal, too. So don't go pissing off any federal agents.

Either way, in any state, they can ring you up for conspiring to traffic illeagal substances, conspiring to manufacture, all kinds of conspiracy that will more or less get you fucked if the case has anything at all to do with federal law.

Some states are more lenient than others. Everything also varies case by case. But, no way in Hell you aren't going to jail for getting caught growing a controlled substance if somebody wants you to go to jail for it. Be it one plant or a whole field.

Your general rule of thumb should be why the hell are you worried about getting caught? If there's any chance of that happening, abort. If part of your growing plans include how to weasel out of jail when I get caught then hit the drawing board.

50 plants in the UK and you'd be in prison.

If you've got 10 or under and can prove it's all for personal use you'll get a fine, maybe a suspended sentence, but no jail time. People have got away with just a fine after getting busted with more than 10 plants, but rule of thumb is stay low and make it look like personal use and it might not even go to court if your really lucky.

Fyi if you are planning on growing 50 plants, america and UK you would get sent to prison. I'm sure canada wouldn't have that harsh of a penalty... Check it out because I have no clue...

I imagine it would be difficult to hide 50 plants in your house anyways. I would consider living on a farm with a green house and no police within miles of your house...
