From the day you knew nothing about growing
How long did it take you to learn it? I know in a way you are always learning more new things as you go along but what i mean is from when you knew nothing about growing how long did it actually take you to understand most of the basics enough to grow a decent plant..

From the day you knew nothing about growing
I started growing a few years back in soil and during your first grow you learn the most. I learned:
-when and when not to water based on weight
-how much light placement over the plants really does play a role
-don't start nutrient feeding until they are past seedling stage.
-how crucial a role air circulation plays with ANY plants.
Of course I learned many many other things but those were the biggies. To answer your question it probably took about a full 6 months before I knew what the hell I was doing.

From the day you knew nothing about growing
I studied a complete grow guide until I understood what I was reading. (about a month)
then I had to decide if I had the time, money, facilties, security, etc. etc..everybody's situation is different. Best six months in my life. (this decade anyway)....I nailed it....first grow....enjoy...imp:...

From the day you knew nothing about growing
I read a book, the famous 'Growing Guide' by Ed Rosenthal and Mel Frank ... then, I put potting soil into 8" clay pots, a couple fluorescent tubes, some diluted Miracle-Gro once a week, and grew gorgeous plants ... no problems, no concerns, just by 'reading a book' ... (that's why I lose my patience sometimes with questions posted, when the answers are all over the page, already) ... :smokin:

From the day you knew nothing about growing
I had previously grown flowers and vegetables and have a college education in biological sciences, so I think you have to count that to some extent.
I STILL know nothing about growing... heck, I can't even grow a chia pet...
But a serious answer to the Q, I went from growing what my tenant referred to as my 'lanky mersh plants' under flouros in a crawl space, to growing viable indicas under HIDs, in about 4 months, or one complete cycle.

well i can only guess that you are talking about it going on it's own in the wild.. so no it would'nt be hard for it to grow on it's own. but when it's hydro i would have to disagree on how it would be so easy as there would have to be some common sense and know how to let it grow the way it needs to.
and i even would have to disagree with u on the easy part altogether as when nature is growing, it does what it needs to. but when man is involved thats a whole nother story so one would have to have some knowledge and understanding of how it all works for it to work. cause if it was a (weed)as u say then u could just throw seeds in the wind and come back in 2 or 3 months to a finished product right...wrong.nature knows just what to do mad does not thats why u have to learn as much as u can b4 just going into it blind like most do thing aww it's just a weed i can just plant it and water it and it will grow most of the time it does not work as u should be able to tell on this site alone.
