Both of these are movies I watched tonight, but I think the former deserves to be watched by every American and the latter deserves to be watched by anybody with a soul:

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) <---Jimmy Stewart is incredible in this
    Sullivan's Travels (1941)

As for Saving Private Ryan, I don't think its ones duty as an American to see this movie. I think its ones duty as an American to realize that the USA raided only two of the five Normandy beaches. Canada and England were there with us! Saving Private Ryan has almost no mention of this fact and reinforces what Americans already think, that we were alone on D-Day. Not saying its not a sweet movie, but its clearly biased and I'm not a fan of reinforcing people's misconceptions.

911 by the Naudet brothers. A truly shocking and mind blowing, first hand account of that horrific day. It still takes my breath away every time i watch it.

I'm not just talking about the beach. You don't see one allied soldier in that movie that isn't an American.
