I'm functional Monday-Fri. I work 8-12 hour days and lift weights another 1-2 hours on top of that...

    Sat-Sun I'm lazy as f*ck!

I also have a 3.2 gpa going into my senior year of college.

I don't think that's a good comparison really considering the physical aspect of alcohol addiction.

When I was drinking heavily, I would have been considered 'functional'- I own a house, have a good job, etc- but the health effects and also moodiness made me question what 'functional' means, and came to the conclusion that such a subjective term had no place in defining whether or not I had a drinking problem.

So I guess you need to define 'functional' for me.

And I am not too impressed with your posts so far... you DO come off sounding like a troll... I hope you mellow out a bit.

I lay around in my own piss stoned all day while my toddler children play in traffic. BUT I do feed them once in a while. Is that functional enough?

I completely agree. Habitual marijuana usage and alcoholism can not be compared. That's like car shopping and comparing a Bently Continental GT to a Hynduai Elantra. I have alcoholics in my family and I've been around a lot of pot heads. Alcoholics hurt themselves and others... I've never seen or heard of someone being hurt or hurting other strictly from cannabis consumption.

I believe the functionality of a person has nothing to do with smoking dope rather than the person's own make-up. If you were lazy before you were a stoner, chances are you'll be twice as lazy while smoking. :twocents:

    I disagree.
Without cannabis medicine, I wouldn't be functional at all.
I would lay in bed all day writhing in pain or passed out on pills.
    Cannabis MAKES me functional!

My mom died a "functional" alcoholic, as did my grandfather, mother-in-law, and many, many friends. I quit drinking (whew!) in 1985, and haven't felt the need to descend into that hell since I also quit smoking marijuana at the same time, because I was told it would lead me back to drinking, but I suffered so from depression and anxiety that after nearly 10 years I began smoking again and found my symptoms greatly alleviated, and if anything, using it made not drinking that much easier. I now use marijuana daily instead of the antidepressents I was prescribed for years, because it works much better with far fewer side effects. The only problem I had with pot was finding it, and now that I grow my own for my own personal use- no problem. I think marijuana is a gift from the universe that we should use to heal and comfort.
I have seen many people act violent under the influence of alcohol, but when people smoke, the worst thing they ususally do is eat too many cookies, yikes!
When I quit drinking, I learned that it isn't how much of a substance you use, it is the effect on you that determines harm. Alcohol brought ever-increasing harm to me and many others, while marijuana never has, and I started smoking in 1970!
The proof of the pudding is in the eating, they say
    mmmm..pudding........

I think you have a different case than what I was talking about. Pain and laziness are different indications of oneā??s make-up. For the most part, you choseā?¦ well, one has a preference to be lazy whereas you donā??t have any say about whether or not youā??re physically or emotionally hurting.

Being the co-producer/stage manager of a large 4 day cannabis festival gave me a whole new perspective about what we can accomplish while completely stoned.

    We can do anything.
    Lazy stoners are a myth.
