Yeah, that definitely seems to be the case. I don't know about the states but in the UK, folk like that are sometimes called 'trendy lefties'. People such as Lenny Henry, Tony Robinson, Mick Hucknall et al.
It seems to be some sort of 'rebellion' by the young against the conservative forces. I also agree with you about liberal's complete inability to string a coherent argument together.
