I do not think so, addiction is straight forward and simple. Either you are addicted and willing to do something about it or you are not willing to do something about it.
When the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the fear of change, one will change.
I have been addicted to heroin and nicotene and once I made up my mind to quit, it was done.
The physical withdrawals from the heroin was the worst thing I have had to go through in my life, nicotene was easy only making me a little nervous for a couple of days and very hungry for about six months.
I wish an easy withdrawal on any of you that still smoke and want to quit but, if you do not make up your mind and stick to it, it will not work.
I know that there is no deterant for you coming from me but, think about your lungs for a second. I was ten when I started smoking and 40 when I quit for good.

Nicotine is a known highly addictive substance. Of course addition affects each person differently, but there are medical professionals who equate the level of nictoine addiction to heroine. It is because nicotine binds to dopamine transmitters in the brain. So it's much harder than just saying "I'm going to quit" for the majority of people. I live in NC, where many cigs are manufactured, so I can still buy a pack of name brand for about $3. If I had to pay $6 for a pack, I don't know what I would do, because that would certainly cut into my income, but I probably would still be smoking...somehow. I will download this though, and check it out. Most smokers have tried to quit at some point, but let's not say it is soooo simple and you are a loser if you have difficulty.

You have no desire to quit smoking? I guess your right. I mean, what is one less person on the planet? Here is the new purpose of life:

Arrange your own death without committing suicide. This planet is overpopulated, anyway.

Give it a few years and something else we enjoy will be labelled as life threatening, don't be so quick to judge...we all probably do something that's gonna kill us.

I'mma have to agree with fasterspider on this one.

Simple and easy aren't necessarily the same thing.

It's simple to quit smoking. You make a commitment to stop, then you follow through with it. Despite the fact that it's simple, it can be extremely difficult because depending on who you are, how long you've been using, and how much you've chosen to excercise your willpower in the past, withdrawal from an addictive substance can be incredibly uncomfortable and even downright painful. That goes for any addiction, not just smoking.

But you can quit, and when I say that I speak from experience. Willpower isn't something that each person has a predetermined amount of. It's a choice. The more you exercise your willpower, the less difficult it becomes to cope with the pain and discomfort that comes with it.
