condom worries
Birth control pills are significantly more effective than condoms at preventing pregnancy, believe it or not. Condoms can break or slip off.
The rate that you're thinking of, jdub, counts people who use birth control pills, but use them wrong. And even then, that number is actually more like 95%, not 92%. And the guy in your health class probably failed to mention that that number for condoms is more like 85%. Used correctly, birth control pills are 99.9% effective, and condoms are 97% effective.
Pregnancy Rates for Birth Control Methods
Also, the delay after starting taking birth control pills before they start working is more like a week. They actually start working right away, if she starts taking them during her period.
The reason why your health instructor was probably telling you not to use birth control pills is because they don't prevent STDs, whereas condoms and abstinence do. Plus, you high school kids tend to use them wrong.
