well... i never noticed the taste of butane, but i know it smells like shit, lol, i use i refillable pistol lighter/torch, my parents let me use their butane to fill it so it's free, i never have to use a Bic

could be a myth, but i hear using a zippo on a bowl makes you inhale lighter fluid, which is probably really bad for you. bics are cheap and basically disposable, and losing them isn't much of a big deal. shiny zippo, where are you?
