I just got my tongue and nipples done about four hours ago. No swelling yet, which is wierd to me, because apparently it's supposed to swell up right away... of course, I did take Ibuprofen beforehand. It was a great experience - the woman who did it and her apprentice were really friendly and fun to talk to, and the place was a lot less "hardcore" than a lot of other shops we'd visited. I was the only person getting a piercing done so it was nice and relaxing. And yes, nipples hurt like a son of a bitch, but almost all the pain goes away in a few seconds. Now I just need to make sure that I remember to do maintenance and not smoke for a few weeks, and I should be fine.

Um, okay. The swelling from tongue piercings is supposed to go down in four to seven days. It's day eight and I'm still as swollen as day two.

I've been diligently doing maintenance and keeping it clean all week. Any tips on what to do or eat or take to get rid of the swelling faster?

Eat ice...I had the same problem, but the ice helped the swelling go down. I've had mine for five years now, so I can take it out for monthes, and put it back in with no problem. I have one that looks like a pill sitting on my tongue...it's cool. My hubby jokes all the time about how we're gonna get pulled over and the cop is gonna think that I'm trying to swallow pills or something and put me in a choke-hold...lol. That wouldn't be good

Wierd how you can take it out for months, I thought the tongue was supposed to heal up in a few hours without the barbell in. Thanks, I guess I know what I'll be doing all day - eating ice and playing Pokemon.

...Don't look at me like that, I'm revisiting my childhood.

Eat sorbet, popsicles, icees, anything without dairy, brush after everytime you eat, rinse with original listerine (yellow), make sure you're brushing the barbell and tongue on top and bottom, make sure you're getting the rinse into the hole;move your tongue up and down on the bar while your mouth is full of listerine, then suck on ice cubes.....:thumbsup:

oh and you can take ibuprofen for swelling too!

Do NOT rinse with listerine, or any mouthwash.

Normally they will give you some solvent for use in keeping your peircing clean, but ever peircing place that I know of tells you not to use Listerine when you get your lip, or mouth peirced. I used bactine for my lip because they were out of the H2Ocean, which I used when I got my tongue peirced.

The ibuprofen really does help though.

And stay away from noodles, and trying to pick stuff out of your teeth with your tongue for awhile.

Aye, all my research says that Listerine is a nono - I didn't know about the dairy though. And I'm on so much Ibuprofen lately. The swelling seems to be finally receding, and now I'm realizing that I have a lot of metal in my mouth. Good thing I'm getting the barbell swapped this weekend (if the piercer okays it).
