Earth has been struck by meteors in the past and it's only a question of time before one comes along big enough to destroy the earth and wipe out life as we know it.
Spacecraft will carry the columbus of tommorow to a new world much as seafarers reached the most distant parts of this planet , or we will perish with this planet.
We will all be long gone by then though.
