26 â??Iran-linked militantsâ?? killed in Iraq raid: US
BAGHDAD â?¢ US and Iraqi forces backed by helicopters killed 26 militants suspected of links to "Iranian terror networks" in raids in the Baghdad Shiite district of Sadr City yesterday, the US military said.
"Coalition forces conducted two separate raids targeting suspected secret cell terrorists during pre-dawn hours Saturday in Sadr City," the military said, adding that another 17 suspects were detained in the operations.
"It is believed that the suspected terrorists have close ties to Iranian terror networks and are responsible for facilitating the flow of lethal aid into Iraq," it added.

26 â??Iran-linked militantsâ?? killed in Iraq raid: US
BAGHDAD: A U.S. general said Monday that Iran was using the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah as a "proxy" to arm Shiite militants in Iraq, and that the elite Iranian Quds Force helped militants carry out a January attack in Karbala that killed five Americans.
The claims were an escalation in U.S. accusations that Iran was fueling violence in Iraq, which Tehran has denied. It was the first time the U.S. military said that Hezbollah had a direct role.
Ali Mussa Dakdouk, accused of being a senior Lebanese Hezbollah operative, was captured March 20 in southern Iraq, Brigadier General Kevin Bergner, a U.S. military spokesman, said. Dakdouk was "working in Iraq as a surrogate for the Iranian Quds Force," organizing militants into cells for attacks on U.S. and Iraqi forces, Bergner said.
He also said that Dakdouk was a liaison between the Iranians and a breakaway Shiite militant cell led by Qais al-Kazaali, a former spokesman for the cleric Moktada al-Sadr.
Bergner said Kazaali's group attacked a provincial government building in Karbala in January and that the Iranians assisted in the attack preparations. Khazaali and his brother, Leith al-Khazaali, were captured with Dakdouk.
Dakdouk told U.S. interrogators that the Karbala attackers "could not have conducted this complex operation without the support and direction of the Quds Force," Bergner said.
