    Oddball Piece: the "EMERGENCY KIT"

I got this thing about 10 years ago. It's sort-of a combination water-pipe and gas mask, in a metal "first aid" type box. It's not a bubber. There is a little glass jar on the left side with a piece of sponge, called the "filter", with a pipe bowl on top. The smoke goes into a larger bottle called THCO2 Tank, and then goes into the face mask. It's hard to explain, and the picture isn't very good. Sorry for the bad picture quality. I've only used it a few times, but it does work and is a pretty devistating way to smoke. Here's the instructions:

    EMERGENCY KIT
    OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

    STEP 1: Set Up
Twist off the filtration container and slightly moisten filter with water. Then tighten lid firmly and insert the reserved lift-off bowl.

    STEP 2: Preparing Victim
Lye patient on back and raise feet slightly. Carefully place the breathing apparatus over the victimâ??s mouth. Adjust the side straps for a snug fit.

    STEP 3: Intake Procedure
Insert proper medication into the bowl. While applying a flame, instruct the patient to inhale vigorously until THCO2 tank is filled. Remove the bowl to allow fresh CO2 into the tank. The patient can now resume a normal breathing pattern until tank is empty. Repeat this step until cured.

Make sure to dry filter and carefully clean up after use.

Please take good care of your Emergency Kit and it will take care of you.

The THCo2 bottle has a hole in the side that is attached by a short tube to the "filtration container", a small glass jar-like container which has a wet sponge in it and a pipe bowl on the screw-top. When you inhale through the mask, the smoke comes into the big bottle from the filtration container/pipe bowl. You then lift the bowl from the filtration device, sort of like a carburetor on a bong, and you get your hit when the air is allowed to enter the filtration container and then push into THCo2 bottle, then into the mask. The hardest part would be to make a hole in a bottle, and a small jar with a screw-top (filtration container). Drilling a hole in the screw-top of the filtration container, for the pipe bowl's metal extension tube, woudn't be hard.

I'm getting a new digital camera in a few days and I'll probably be able to get better pictures of the various parts, and post them.

You can do it yourself. It's a stab at humor, the way the instructions are written inside the top cover. They made it to look like a medical respirator of some kind. I never took it to a party, but I would imagine that it would be a big "hit" at one.

It's too much for me to handle these days! I'm used to the VaporGenie pipe - nice and mellow.

I'll give it a try again one day, when I come into some hash or indica. Maybe sooner, since it's been a while, lol.

I got it in a head shop, which has since closed - about ten or twelve years ago. It was expensive, like 70 bucks, but I'm glad I have it anyway. I've never seen another one.

If I can get some good pictures, I'm sure that people will be able to make one that does the job the same way. The instructions and whole "conversation piece" aura of it is nice, but not necessary.

Here's some more pictures of it, hopefully clearer. The only water that is used is on the sponge in the filtration bottle, the smaller of the two.
