If you want to leave a button unbuttoned, I am pretty sure it is the bottom button. Same thing with a vest. If you have two buttons though I think it looks better with both buttoned. If you have 3 or more buttons then that's when you might leave the last one unbuttoned.

You button the bottom one. You leave the top one unbuttoned to show off your shirt underneath.

The bottom button is never buttoned on any jacket (2 or 3 button). When you sit, unbutton, when you stand button up.

if it's a two button jacket, button them both.. if it's a three button jacket, leave the bottom one unbuttoned, so when you are sitting the jacket doesnt get ruffled up, then if you are standing up and moving around and conversing, you can leave the bottom one buttoned and open the top one to show the shirt and tie underneath... my grandpa told me that's the way you're suposed to wear jackets and coats when i was younger

Personally, the few times I've been in a jacket, I buttoned the top ones, but left the bottom one undone.

Most of the time though, I didn't button it at all. I figured why cover up that nice shirt and tie with a jacket. Leave the jacket open, so you see the snazzy jacket, nice tie, and shirt underneath. Plus I look dead sexy that way.

For me, (fuck everyone else) it's always the top one that's not buttoned.. I like people to see my well developed stomach, and more than just the top of my shirt..
