Why do I feel like Foliar Feeding is a big crock...? I'm no botanist, but is seems akin to voodoo (spray the leaves with magic vitamins to make the plant GROOOOOOW!).

It seems like the potential damage from moistening the leave under HIDs far outweigh any possible growth enhancement...?

Is there any science out there on this....?

the reason you can burn your plants when foliar feeding is because when the foliar feed solution drys out/evaporates/ is absorbed a clear film may build up on the leaves, thus magnifying your hid lights. Foliar feed when you can ensure at least a few hours of darkness.

There's a difference between the sun which is tens of thousands of miles away and a HID light that's 2 feet away. You CAN burn your leaves by getting to much moisture on there. Always have an oscillating fan to help dry the leaves if you're going to mist or foliar feed. Or do it during your dark period with a fan on. There are various ways you could do it but it IS possible to burn the leaves with HID lighting and moisture.

    Hope this helps,
    Bob.

Foliar feeding can be effective, but unless there is an imbalance you are trying to correct (nutrient deficiency or overload) the effect will be minor (though if you are a perfectionist there is some proven value).

The trick to keep from causing light burn is to use a very fine mister (atomizer type) so large drops don't form and 'focus' the light in one spot.

there is the difference between getting some morning sun and being hit with the full light at once too. yes it helps with deficency, but i dont know anything about regular feedings with foliar.
