PULLED Over with a bunch of shit and didnt get fucked that bad ?

Well i was with a few friends last night driving around(i was the driver if that makes a difference)(baked also:P) we are all 18 i had just turned 18 like a few weeks ago, and i saw the blue lights in my rear view and almost fucking had a heart attack. so he started questioning us and then he questioned my friend who was in the back seat and made him open up his backpack and finds a half empty handle of rum, which i didnt even know he had. so then the cop searched my car and found a quarter of bud which i had just bought a few hours earlier, yea that sucks ass. so then after everything had been found all he asks me to do is call him today and discuss this whole situation. so the extremely lucky thing for me is that i didnt even get arrested and neither did my friends, he jsut let us drive home w/o even a sobriety or breathalizer test. he said that i might just have to do some community service or go to a class of some sort. i live in MA and do any of u guys know if i hadnt been arrested at the scene can i still get criminal charges/can i get completely fucked somehow?

lol i feel like im gunna get off pretty easy with this mayb community service or some classes or something, but i dunno its taking a while to find out wat these consequences r so i might think that they will change their minds and like charge me. isnt there some law that says like u need to be charged within 48 hours of the offence or does that just apply to being in custody.

man almost the same thing happened to me but he arrested me you shouldnt get a criminal offense on you unless laws are different in MA i know here its a half O before its felonious and btw if you have to do the courses they extremely blow
