Court eases limits on campaign ads, shields faith plan
WASHINGTON // The Supreme Court handed President Bush and the Republican Party two victories yesterday by clearing the way for corporate-funded broadcast ads before elections and by shielding the White House's "faith-based initiative" from challenge in the courts.
Both came in 5-4 rulings by the conservative majority led by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.
The first decision will allow corporate and union money to play a bigger role in political campaigns.
Five years ago, Congress passed the McCain-Feingold Act, part of which banned pre-election ads that mention a candidate's name if they were paid for with corporate or union money. Yesterday's ruling went most of the way toward striking down that ban.
The ads involve "core political speech" that is protected by the First Amendment, Roberts said. "We give the benefit of the doubt to speech, not censorship."
While labor unions and their Democratic allies also will benefit from the ruling, Republicans and business interests led the challenge to the McCain-Feingold Act and its restrictions on pre-election broadcast ads.

Wow, we agree on yet another hot button topic. If you keep coming around, I'll have you voting for Mike Gravel yet. I think you're starting to see the light, like how phony Rudy Judiani is, or how corrupt John McCain is etc. I know, I, know, Hillarious and Obamarama aren't much better.

Now don't get your hopes up to high there.......LOL. I personally think that the ONLY ad time/debate/promotion should be allocated by each individual network on an equal basis for ALL the candidates no matter which party they belong. Unfortunately we'd have to deal with some of the nut jobs from the bottom level parties but what's right is right.

and the court's turned down the appeal!? WTF?
seperation of church and state? HELLO!? i learned that in 5th grade and won't let it go.

This should really confuse you about my politics.....I agree with ya on the second part also! Like ya said...."seperation of church and state". They collect money from their congregations to do "charity" work. Hell, they pay no taxes...maybe they should cut back on the stain glass, gold chalices and the wine. As I recall from me 6 years of Catholic hell schooling, gold items to worship with were frowned upon by the Lord.

Can I get an Amen? "The churches in the latter days shall become the mother whores of the earth" Don't know exactly where in the bible I read this, but I certainly believe it.
