Speaking of guitarists - Michael Hedges

    "Arial Boundaries"

I read an interview once about Michael. When he recorded songs for his albums he went direct to tape. No effects, no multitracks, no overdubs. Just him and a guitar playing straight through each song. As the story goes, once during recording he played brilliantly - a once in a lifetime take, perfect in every way. Unfortunately, the recording was lost for some reason or another and everyone was devasted. Michael, without a single word, walked out of the studio and into the nearby woods. A while later he returned, blazed from smoking a joint. He walked back into the studio, sat down and re-recorded the song in one take. This time they got it and it was even better than the one before, the one they had lost. This was the song.

If I remember correctly, this performance was from 1985. It's from the Windam Hill DVD. The original version of the song is on the CD of the same name, "Aerial Boundaries".
