The Ventures have been putting out instrumental records since 1960 - and some of the original members still play, record, and tour together.

Walk -- Don't Run: The Best of the Ventures is a good CD of their earlier stuff - which includes a lot of cool "surf" music sounds. They were the first band to record with a "fuzz tone" guitar effect, as well as pioneering other innovative recording techniques.
