Rubber band on slide

A rubber band on a 6 hit slider? I've had these since the 70's and never recall getting one. Not doubting ya's or anything...just found this strange.

Forgot about it, then remembered and its not there (or around). I've given up for now, but my questions are : Is it important? and if so, if I can't find it, what's the name and such and is it typically available in a headshop? Thanks in advance. Rating: 5
