it is too early to tell with that pic, and it is a bad link just remove the http part.

It isn't showing signs of sex yet.

He said leaves will grow out from main stem individually not together as shown when it starts to mature.

Your friend is right. The stem will start to look zigzag and that is called 'alternating nodes'. Preflowers should show shortly thereafter.
