How do you treat your mind?

    I am severely depressed...

But I don't let it bring me down!
psteve Reviewed by psteve on . How do you treat your mind? Ya know, I've always been curious about how other people treated their own minds... Sometimes it just seems like people don't realize they can have power over themselves. So, do you...ever notice what goes through in your head? do you try to change the way you are currently programmed? do you perform mental exercises? What do YOU do ? Rating: 5

How do you treat your mind?

I have a very active mind, mainly due to having high anxiety with my bi-polar disorder, but I have to manage it with very low doses of medication. I'm talking 2mg per pill, which is nothing compared to some, so I'm not all doped up like I used to when I was taking 4 diff. kinds of meds. at once.

My anxiety does kick up every so often, and that's part of being as human. I get nervous just like anyone else, but mine, keeps going and going and going, and doesn't stop of hours. I sometimes lose sleep, but I do try some mental things that I have learned.

It's a form of meditating I guess, but what I do when I'm feeling edgy or my mind is going a mile a minute, is I cram some earplugs in my ears so I can't hear anything, sit on my bed, cross my legs, and just close my eyes. I try to picture black, a black room, and try to clear my mind of anything. That can take 5-10 minutes sometimes and is the hardest thing to concentrate on. Once my min d is clear, I breathe in deep for 10 seconds, hold for 3 seconds, and release the air slwoly for about 10 more seconds. I do this about 6 times, and while I'm doing this, I try to picture a happy place. For me it's playing guitar or in a huge weed feild (i'm seriouas too)

After I do that, I get my brain clamed down and operating at a comfortable pace.

Positive thinking is what it's all about. Put out the positive vibes and after time, your brain just becomes automatically used to it.

Hope that helps somewhat. It helps sometimes for me, but not always.

There you go man! I love to hear shit like this.
I too have to deal with rather mild cases of anxiety and bi-polarity and that's exactly what I do. I've became so acquainted with these exercises that I now do them ALL of the time. While doing activities like rock climbing and skating, while talking to others, while doing my job, etc. Breathing is the NUMBER ONE key to a lot of problems! And indeed positive thinking is the only way to go!

Gandalf_The_Grey, you seem to have it going as well! Keeping an active, positive, open, learning mind will pratically never make you age! (Metaphorically speaking of course )

And stinkyattic, Hell, masturbation and sex are the best of the physical world...Masturbating the mental is the best of the psychological world

Keep it up ladies and gentlemen! You are all on the path to success and enlightment

Thats FAR truer than we would like even to think... All we humans have two minds, and only one of them is actually ours... Now go figure if its the angel or the devil...

I'm fortunate in that I am an easy going, naturally happy person and can usually ignore or make fun of my inner demons til they stfu.

but yeah, there have been a few times in my life where horrible things have happened & i had to question all i thought i knew about people god and country and it took some doing to get it all back to normal in my head. if that even makes any sense, idk.

to stay mentally sharp I read a lot, listen to music more, play lots of games, esp word games and I like to create things. I dont think I do any mental exercises per se.
