Been gone a long long time.
I've been in the Sierras! I decided that I wanted to go all nature style for a couple of weeks so I left for the Sierras with all my backpacking gear. I made a stop at our family cabin @ Lake Tahoe and stocked up on more gear, then I went backpacking.
I was on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe (Kings Beach) when I left. I took a GPS (just incase, didn't use it), maps, fishing pole, Steri-pen (A cool UV light water sterilizer), food for a week or so, 1 man tent, and the other stuff.
I basically started heading north-ish from my house and walked through the mountains. I told my mom I was heading north from our house and would keep her posted where I was going via text message (cell reception because they put cell towers on the highest mountains).
I was gone for a total of 11 days because I decided to go "all nature style to the extreme" for 5 of those days. I dropped my pack in a place I was going to stay and only carried my clothes+jacked, steri-pen, knife, flint and tinder, and fishing pole. I built a shelter that was very insulated and sturdy because I had a few days to stay. I made a pine needle bed and a blanket made out of branches stuffed with pine needles. Everything worked out really well.
I fished along a stream I ran across about 1 mile from my camp or so and also gathered water there. There were plenty of good fish in there (Trout and such) and I caught plenty. I also made an indian throwing stick and got 3 rabbits and a squirrel. I don't normally hunt but this was my nature to the extreme time.
I looked around and did day hikes. I wrote alot of letters to people who I have gotten to know really well in the past couple of years.
Then after this I met my mom in a small town called Lone Pine, CA, about 170 miles south of the Yosemite. We hiked Mt. Whitney in 2 days. The hike went well, it was easy. Nothing special except for the amazing views. There was only about 400 yards of snow and ice around the top end of the trail.
So that is where I have been and why I haven't been posting for the past month.Dr.Hashman Reviewed by Dr.Hashman on . Been gone a long long time. I've been in the Sierras!
