If you're asking which way the root goes, you put off planting a bit long. I pop those babies in the dirt as soon as the root is as long as the seed. Anyway, if it's long try to get it pointing downwards, but geotrophism ( basically the plant's sense of gravity) will get the roots going in the right direction. Don't hassle so much- cannabis grew fine for millions of years WITHOUT our help! Good dirt, enough light and decent water is all you need! - Granny:hippy:

I like to plant before its more then 1 CM long. I just find it easier to bury and feel less likely to damage it.

first, you should plant them as soon as the root shows, down preferably. take a sharpened pencil(no2) and stick it in as far as the paint, thats the perfect depth(drop the seed in and cover it up). now thats old school right? just being a smart ass really, but honestly thats what i heard. seems to work.

i use about to joints of a finger length to bury mine and after the plant is tall enough put soil around to the first set of little round leaves...because they fall off anyways...

Also, I NEVER plant the seed more than 1/2 inch below the soil surface. It has a limited supply of energy to poke itself up, and planting too deep is a common reason that seeds will fail to emerge.
Be sure that your soil has a fine tilth and no chunks over where the seed was.
