First grow going well!! Question about flowering outdoors...
I've got two sativas and two indicas growing in a secluded outdoor guerrilla spot. This is my first ever grow. My plants are already waste high and hardy looking... they're doing well and I'm excited! But I just realized I may have a problem if flowering only starts when the light/dark goes to 12hr/12hr.
You see, I looked my area up in a sunrise/sunset calendar and it looks like we hit 12/12 on September 25th. If my plants don't start to flower until then, I have a problem because our first frost is Nov. 4th (on average) and my seed supplier said the indica flowers in 6-8 weeks and the sativa flowers in 8 weeks. If my plants don't start to flower until September 26 then my buds won't be ready to harvest until mid to late November... which is after we'll likely have a freeze!
Please tell me my plants will start to flower before Sept. 25th. And if so, when do you think they'll start to flower? I'm in Burlington, North Carolina.
Also, when should I go in to check for males? I don't visit the plants often b/c they have a self watering setup and are way back in the middle of a tick/snake infested swamp. But I heard once to check for males before you think the females will be flowering... like the males flower earlier or something. (I want to kill the males)jsn9333 Reviewed by jsn9333 on . First grow going well!! Question about flowering outdoors...
im sure they will finish flowering well before any frost. 12 /12 is really just a light schedule used to flower plants indoors it really has nothing to do with flowering outdoors.
would be looking closely for males during august but it sounds like they are old enough you could probably determine sex now by looking for preflowers at the upper internodes.

First grow going well!! Question about flowering outdoors...
I planted outside and mine flowered and are done. I planted in 2nd week in march. I am going to pull today because I am going on vacation. If I were staying home they would only be in for another 6-7 days.
Sooo to give hope to early blooms.. According to the charts, I wasn't supposed to go 12/12 until mid sept. I was told by many that my plants had premature flowering and would return to vegitative state since I planted so early and I was looking at an Oct harvest. All the while I was looking at these things, thinking.. yeah right.
If I were you I would go check for males now.

First grow going well!! Question about flowering outdoors...
Listen to bejay Its the onset of the changing seasons that trigger flowering. 12/12 is STANDARD for indoor growers, ive had plants that started flowering 13/11 or vicaversa, mother nature is queen
