CFLs
So I want to use CFLs, lots of people seem to be using them, I can afford them, it's great, but what are you all hooking them up to? I don't have anything to wire lightbulbs into in my closet and from what I've gathered from every single employee of the local hardware store my only plug-in option is a desk lamp and I have the feeling no one is using desk lamps.

Go to wal-mart, they have worklights that are perfect for cfl use. $5.88 where I'm loacated, less than the bulbs. I removed the clamps on mine and wired them directly to my cabinet ceiling, My plants sit on adjustable shelves so I don't have to contend with moving lights.(ever dropped one, BOOM) I've also seen a pic here someone posted that removed the clamps also and hung the lights off of the cord itself. As for powering them use a power strip and an extenstion cord, just dont leave a big orange cord trail going directly to your setup It might cause suspicion. Also try to find some in the upper end of the kelvin scale it will be better for veg.

you can buy lamp parts in the electrical dept. cords, plugs, sockets, with some basic electrical wiring you can make your own pretty easily, its only three wires. google wiring a lamp or something. i have one of the same reflectors/clamp lamps that karma is talking about and they work well. i use 1 to start seedlings and clones. you would need a lot of them though if you were going to grow just under them though, they dont cover a very large area.

I've seen the fixtures and shit at wal-mart. You could probably get them at hardware stores though.

yea, i just sorta decapitated any unused lighting paraphernalia laying around my house, and sorta rigged it up to a power strip, works pretty good. I have 4 of the 150W CFL's and a bunch of other random ones.

Here is a link to some autoflower plants called BlueStreak I grew with this light. It was under this light for its whole life.
