PLO urges Abbas to dissolve Govt

The umbrella organisation for Palestinian groups, the PLO, has recommended that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas dissolve the unity Government between Fatah and Hamas and declare a state of emergency.

Aides to Mr Abbas have said he will announce his response in the coming hours.

Hamas, which is not part of the PLO, has tightened its control over the Gaza Strip after more than five days of intense factional fighting.

There have also been reports of more gun battles in the West Bank city of Nablus.

The Palestinian chief negotiator, Saeb Erekat, says the first priority for all concerned is to stop the fighting.

"What we need to say to the world now is we need to stop this fire, we need to extinguish this fire, we need to have a cease-fire and if we don't do this, if we don't help ourselves as Palestinians, I don't think anybody can," he said.

Members of the PLO executive committee say it has also recommended that Mr Abbas declare a state of emergency and call for international protection to declare Hamas's armed wing and paramilitary outlaws and to organise early elections.

Now the PLO steps up.........another hot front in the good ol' middle east. Wouldn't this be a good time for countries in the middle east to form some sort of peace keeping force for their "Muslim brothers" in Palistine?

Didn't they win the last election? If that is the case, then maybe Mr. Abbas is the outlaw stirring the shit...........Just like in Iraq, if the duly elected government wants Sharia law, then as a "democracy", they should have it, ~LOL~, that would just about be justice. Ya freed us from the terrible dictator, so now we can be ruled by Mullahs, like Iran, Beheadings for minor infractions and stonings for infedelity, cutting off of hands etc. real progress. And By the way, if Iraq is a "democracy" why the emphasis on signing the oil over to American Oil companies. The "oil bill" which is Bush's only priority, gives American and british Oil companies control over 85% of Iraqi oil reserves, and you thought we went there to free Iraqis,~LOL~. The Iraqis are rioting in the streets over this Bill, but you won't see that on TV.
