milk is fine. it's close to neutral than the pH of your stomach so it can calm things down. i didn't know it upregulated acid production of your stomach for later. either way it's not a good way to treat reflux long term because your esophagus is still exposed to acid chronically--this can turn into something ugly like cancer or barrett's later.

smoking cigarettes, coffee, and a lot of over the counter medications can make reflux worse.

reglan can definitely help. only problem is that its main side effect is lowered mentation--you get a little slower/sleepier on it.

if your reflux is really that bad and doesn't go away for a long time, you can have a surgery called a nissen fundoplication. it's very invasive and doesn't always work. it's usually a last resort for people who are going to develop esophageal cancer if they don't control their reflux.

there is little to no research on the effects of marijuana on reflux. some have suggested that it be used as a treatment for reflux because of cannabinoid receptors in the gi tract. this is still theoretical though.
chantoke Reviewed by chantoke on . Help, I think I'm dying of heartburn I have GERD. Bad. I have had it under control lately(as in bearable pain). I am on 2 40 mg protonix(PPI) per day. But tonight, It is completely out of control. I took my medicine. I took a zantac150 about an hour ago. I am out of milk(which usually helps). I do not know what to do. Right now, I am in complete and utter unbearable pain. Unimagineable pain. I can imagine only chemo being more painful than this. I am burping every 3 seconds; very painful burps.
