    Is this article BS?

    InfoFacts - Marijuana

I don't know if it is or isn't. I smoke weed, but I hope it doesn't do as much damage as said in there. And also, is it legal for the Govt to lie about things like this?

    Is this article BS?

Some parts of that information are indeed BS. A lot of the stuff about memory problems, brain damage, effects on learning (at least from light usage--heavy is a different matter), addiction potential, etc., have been clearly disproven. But there are some accurate facts, too. Smoked cannabis is not beneficial for the heart or the lungs. Inhaling burning vegetable matter of any kind isn't beneficial.

You'd expect an organization like the NIDA to publish anti-drug information. That's what they're in business for--to discourage drug use. The government doesn't believe it's lying about this stuff because they find statistics to back up their postulations, statistics that aren't based on the latest research or large-scale, carefully controlled studies. That's why cannabis advocates have to be up to speed on the accurate information as we know it. We also need to be aware that compared to what we still don't know, what we do know about cannabis is equivalent to about a thimble-full of information. Our government has a policy against allowing ongoing testing of cannabis, which we can guess is probably thanks to the influence of our country's pharmaceutical industry.

You're going to get answers here that say, "It's all baloney. All lies." Be just as wary of those folks as you are this NIDA information. They're speaking with their emotions and through very cannabis-biased eyes. Like every substance on earth, from sugar to spinach to cannabis to other naturally occuring psychotropic substances we can't talk about here, there's good along with the bad. To do justice to cannabis, we have to take both ends of the spectrum into account.
