Well you MAY be talking about fertilizer that is added when you WATER, after the plant gets its 5th set of leaves. Or you may be talking about adding organic soil amendments to your mix, like bone meal, guano, etc. The plant WILL need a food source when it gets past the seedling stage.

-when your seeds are done germinating is it better to plant them straight into a pot or plant them in a cup or something smaller first?

A small cup with lots of holes, in the bottom and even up the sides, like a Dixie cup, will be good to get them through seedling time. Then you put them in something bigger and start feeding them.

-How long does it usually take ffor seeds to germinate?

24hours to 2 weeks, depending on strain, temperature, and age of the seeds.
