That's the thing...he shouldn't HAVE to make choices...when you first get a long term girlfriend...you stop hanging out with your regular friends more and more. It happens doesn't it? Did you CHOOSE the one you love before the ones who have been there and sometimes WILL continue to be there for you? Hell no...you just compromised and spend time with both. A girlfriend who tries to take me away from my friends is not worthy of being my girlfriend.

His father should not go 'all or nothing' in this situation. He shouldn't have to choose between recreationally indulging in smoked enjoyment, or being on his father's good side. It's a shame that his dad chooses to be so hardheaded, but the relationship isn't worth it if the father is not understanding and is just being completely ignorant.

When I got my industrial piercing..my dad didn't talk to me for THREE days. I knew he was ALWAYS against piercings and tattoos...it took me 3 years to convince him to let me get a small hoop on my left earlobe...then one day I came home with the cartilage of my ear pierced in two places, all connected by one big long bar...he was PISSED...yelled at me loud as hell..slammed the door...and didn't talk to me for 3 days. Then he startd to say a few things casually but only 'necessary' things like "pass the water" or whatever...then slowly I saw he wanted to accept me again so I began talking to him and he responded and stuff and then less than a week after I got my piercing, it's as if nothing ever happened. He still pokes fun at me and stuff but he never gets upset about it.
