What is Information?
Seems like a simple enough question, right? But when I tried to look up a precise answer for the scientific definition of information, all I got was information on scientific definitions.
Could someone explain to me in layman's terms the scientific definition of information, especially as it relates to quantum mechanics?
I'd be much appreciative of any help. Thanks. :jointsmile:afghooey Reviewed by afghooey on . What is Information? Seems like a simple enough question, right? What is Information?
Information, as it applies to quantum mechanics is too general a term. QM deals with GENERAL behavior of particals. For example, you can know where a partical is or it's velocity but not both and that is a generalization in itself in that you can't predict either for a spicific particle. I suspect cancom is the wrong place to locate the answers you seek.

What is Information?
i'm afraid that i don't know much about information in physics except it can't travel faster than the speed of light Faster-than-light - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
i was able to find these two wikipedia articles one on physical information and the other relating to quantum information.

What is Information?
I have read posts before but had to sign up when i came across this question.
Information is waht separates us all. The difference between you and the chair you sit in is information. we are all the same matter or energy, to use those terms loosley, the difference in what we become and how we became is information. Our DNA is the information that is used to create us. Any object can be seen as energy, and IMO we are all connected by being the same energy, but the reason objects are different is the information which encompasses and engulfs an object. Energy can not be created nor destroyed, so for jus a moment if u assume the big bang theroy is correct than we were all the same for that 'moment'. If u like to assume everything has always been here, then what is everything and what was it before information came into play. So after talkin this out in my head I guess i hav come to the conclusion Information is eveything. and noninformation is jus that. Nothing
